Missionhovawart friends, Seeker and Grace

The AHNA club belongs to an international community of hovawart enthusiasts who are dedicated to preserving the health, temperament and conformation of the original German working dog. Our mission is to be conscientious guardians of the breed, doing our part to ensure that hovawarts in North America are authentic representatives of the established international dog fancy.

Values

The AHNA club is built upon a firm foundation of values that reflect our fundamental beliefs as an organization:

  •  Respect for the breedHovawarts are our primary focus and we place the needs of the breed before the needs of breeders and owners.
  •  Strict breeding standardsWe recognize and adhere to the strict breeding standards established by Rassezuchtverein fur Hovawart-Hunde e.V. (RZV), the original German breed club. Disciplined breeding standards in North America will contribute to a promising future for hovawarts worldwide.
  •  Responsible ownershipEducation is top priority for the AHNA club because knowledge of canine ways in general, working dogs, and the specific characteristics of the breed will be major contributors to success with genuine hovawarts.

Guiding Principles

  •  International PartnershipsThe AHNA club must maintain mutually beneficial relationships with:
    • Rassezuchtverein für Hovawart-Hunde e.V. (RZV) – The prestigious German breed club provides invaluable guidance toward the breeding of authentic hovawarts in North America.
    • Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) – AHNA hovawarts will be FCI registered, thereby attaining the international standing of other conscientiously bred hovawarts from around the world.
    • International Hovawart Federation (IHF) – Our membership in the IHF enables ongoing communication and interaction with serious hovawart breed clubs from other member countries.
  •  Information ManagementThe AHNA database will include pedigrees, show titles, working titles, and genetic characteristics of all hovawarts in North America belonging to responsible owners –- those people who believe that better information leads to better breeding, purchasing and importation decisions. The AHNA newsletter and website will provide information of interest to experienced, novice and prospective owners.
  •  MembershipThe conduct of our club worldwide (and its members) must be socially responsible and command respect for its integrity and positive contributions to the breed. AHNA welcomes everyone who is interested in hovawarts and the many activities and dog sports to which they are so well suited.
  •  Continuous Improvement and LearningAs conscientious guardians of the breed, we must strive for excellence in everything we do and commit ourselves to continuous learning in support of hovawarts in North America and throughout the world.
